There is a risk with hybrid words that they can be seen simply as smart marketing slogans. For Phil Matten ‘Solutioneering’ did make sense on first reading but a day at the KVT headquarters close to Zurich was an excellent opportunity to test the integrity of the strategy and thinking behind it.
The KVT Solutioneering Group owes its roots to Dr Ing. Max Koenig who, in 1927, began offering customised sheet metal engineering in Zurich. In 1950 the company introduced complementary products including blind rivets and fasteners. It also relocated to Dietikon, around 15 kilometres from the centre of Zurich, which remains its headquarters as well as a manufacturing site.
It is one of KVT’s distinctions that it is both innovative manufacturer and successful fastening technology distributor. The KOENIG-expander®, manufactured now in both Dietikon and North Haven, Connecticut, is a unique sealing system for drilled holes. Innovated in the 1970s primarily for hydraulic applications it today ensures safe and tight closures, even at extreme pressure loading, in a wide range of applications, including engine, power transmission, steering and fuel injection systems for many automotive manufacturers. As well as contributing substantially to the sales and profitability the expander business imparts a series of invaluable advantages to its fastener technology counterpart.
